It all started with the thought of offering the free software to the users. The free software movement inspired the birth of Open Source. Open Source is the result of collective efforts from individuals and the companies and it has helped many companies to save the money with alternate solutions. It is estimated that a software cost is just 20% of its implementation cost. The hardware makers must bundle the software with their products or must provide the free updates in future. The desktop workstations are costly with the software from Microsoft and other providers. Many companies shifted the windows machines to Linux machines. There are many versions of Linux which are absolutely free. Many of these software perform better than the paid ones. The only problem is limited support availability. Individuals develop excellent software and give it for free but the future updates or fixing of the bug may not be provided. But now, many reputed companies are investing money in Open Source movement.
